File Shredder
Linux Mint desktop utility
File Shredder is a GTK helper for GNU shred. Add files or folders, check the queue, confirm the final summary, then permanently overwrite and remove selected files.
Built for safer day-to-day use
Add files and folders without worrying about spaces or special characters in file names.
Folder rows expand so you can inspect queued files before shredding starts.
When hidden files are found, choose whether to include them, skip them, or cancel.
Ready, Waiting, Shredding, Destroyed, failed and permission states are shown directly in the queue.
The app records successes, failures and permission problems without flooding the user with raw verbose output.
The Debian package installs the app menu entry, icon and right-click file-manager integration.
Current build
The .deb package is recommended for Linux Mint because it installs the desktop menu entry and file-manager right-click integration.
The Flatpak bundle is provided as a single installable Flatpak file. It requires Flatpak and may need the GNOME runtime from Flathub.

shred is most reliable on traditional hard drives. SSDs, NVMe drives, USB sticks and SD cards may keep hidden copies because of wear levelling. For flash storage, full-disk encryption or the drive's own secure erase feature is usually stronger than per-file shredding.
