What is XG Downloader?

XG Downloader is a desktop application for Windows and Linux that helps organise media for your local archive. It provides a graphical queue, local file controls, quality options where available, progress tracking and recovery for interrupted work. The application uses yt-dlp and FFmpeg where appropriate, while direct media files can be handled without a command line.

Third-party extensions

Third-party extensions may exist for XG Downloader and may provide expanded functionality. They are independent software and are not supplied, reviewed, endorsed, or recommended by XG Downloader.

Why users love it:

Smart queuing — Drag & drop or paste links, pause/resume, reorder, and recover unfinished queues even after restarting the app.

Flexible control — Global quality settings with per-URL overrides, speed limits, existing file handling (skip/rename/overwrite/resume), and projected file size + ETA.

Real-time feedback — Colourful VU-style meters, per-slot speed, and detailed progress tracking.

Transparent tooling — Uses yt-dlp and FFmpeg/FFprobe where configured, with availability determined by the URL and the tools themselves.

Built for organised work — Activity logs, download history, queue import/export, diagnostics and reliable local management.

The app is intended for lawful archiving and personal workflows. You are responsible for having permission to save the material you submit and for following the source service's terms, access controls and applicable law.

Built by David Smith.

XG Downloader was created as a practical graphical interface for organising media work without requiring command-line operation. The focus is reliability, clear queue management, local control and straightforward diagnostics. A free version is available, with optional Pro limits for users who need larger workflows.
